How it works
- Hold your shortcut and speak. Control–Option–Space by default; a small indicator shows Owscribe is listening.
- Release. Owscribe transcribes on your Mac and pastes the text into the field you were in. It never presses Return.
- Or copy. When a field can't take pasted text, the result waits for you to copy it. Every dictation is kept, so nothing is lost.
Names and terms, spelled right
Give Owscribe the words that matter to you, like a colleague's name, a client, or a specialist term, and it spells them as you do. Keep a separate list for each project: Owscribe picks the right one from the window you're dictating into, or you choose it from the menu bar.

Recognition runs locally. Recordings and transcripts stay on your Mac until you delete them.
Nothing to sign up for
No account, no analytics, no ads. Owscribe goes online only to download its speech model and check for updates.
You decide what it reads
Reading which project you're in, or the text near your cursor, is optional and never saved.
What you need
- A Mac with Apple silicon, running macOS 26 or later.
- About 2.5 GB of space for the speech model, downloaded once during setup.
- The microphone permission. Accessibility is recommended: it lets Owscribe paste and see which project you're in. Without it, Owscribe copies the text for you to paste.
- Owscribe understands English for now.
